  • Backwell’s 2nd Saturday Fairtrade and Repair Café

    Backwell’s regular 2nd Saturday Fairtrade Café is on Saturday 14th March at the Parish Hall from 10am-noon. This month, there will be brand new aluminium tables bought for the Hall with a generous grant from the Stancombe Quarry Community Fund (Tarmac). Check out the designer signage they also paid for.

    As usual there will be the Coffee Bar, The Fair-Trade stall, the Bulk Buy club, and the Ecover refills stand. By popular request the Repair Café will return and plans to have people who can help with fabric, bikes, toys etc., sharpening tool and knives, and smart phones/computers. Repairs are free but donations are welcome. If you have any skills to offer, please contact sustainablebackwell@gmail.com.

    There is also a swap stall for any good quality items you have finished with and would like someone else to benefit from, or maybe you will find something there you need. If you are a community to charity group which would like to publicise its work, have a stall or hold an event at a future 2nd Saturday, please contact bill.charnock@btinternet.com.

  • Backwell Drama Club Entertains 2020

    After last year’s very successful performance, Backwell Drama Club will stage Little Grimley’s production of ‘Strictly Sex Factor on Ice’, another hilarious one-act script-in-hand play by David Tristram. This will be followed by supper with bring your own drinks and the evening will conclude with ‘A Tribute to the BBC Light Programme’. This will all take place at Backwell Parish Hall on 27th and 28th March at 7.45pm. Tickets (£7.50) are now available from Tim Lewis on 01275 790555. An evening not to be missed!

  • North Somerset Quilters March Meeting

    North Somerset Quilters will be meeting on Friday 20th March at 7.30pm at the WI Hall in Station Road, Backwell. The speaker is John Cole-Morgan, a relative newcomer to the world of Patchwork, with a talk entitled “How the Internet has Changed Quilting”. Visitors welcome at a cost of £5 for the evening.   • Backwell and Nailsea Ladies’ Choir Spring Concert

    The Backwell and Nailsea Ladies’ Choir Spring Concert will be on Wednesday 26th March, starting at 2.15pm in the WI Hall in Backwell. Admission will be by ticket. Tickets (£5) will be available from the beginning of March at Backwell Post Office and from Jean Routley (01275 462059). From the proceeds a donation will be made to BRACE and Bob Smith will be at the concert to tell people a little about the work done by BRACE.

    The next meeting of the Macular Support Group will be on Wednesday 26th February 1.30pm, in Backwell WI Hall, Station Road. The speaker will be from Vision North Somerset.     The next meeting will welcome back David Andrews and Terry Merrett-Smith who will present ‘Life is a Cabaret, Another Miscellany of Musical Magic’ in which they will play a selection of songs from stage and screen. Those who have experienced David and Terry’s entertainment before will know that it will be an enjoyable and stimulating evening.   • Woodspring U3A

    Woodspring U3A

    On Tuesday 28th January at 2.15pm, the Woodspring U3A will hold their monthly meeting at the Methodist Church, Silver Street, Nailsea.

    The first talk in 2020 is by Paul Barnett and his topic is “The Cotswold Navy – What’s in a Name?”. Paul will explore in detail the regions connection to the sea via its maritime fleet of locally named vessels. Non-members are welcome for a £1 fee. Hot drinks are available before the talk, but bring your own mug.
